Diabetes Mellitus and Ramadan: Physiopathological, Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects
2017
Fasting from dawn to sunset during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. A significant number of diabetic patients insist on fasting during Ramadan against the recommendations of their physicians. Fasting in diabetic subjects may be associated with increased risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, dehydration and thrombosis. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus are predisposed to major metabolic risks. Another problem is the reluctance of diabetic patients in taking their medications during the fast; therefore the timing and the dosage of anti-diabetic drugs must be adapted for each patient. It is important for diabetic patients who wish to fast during …
Remodelling of biological parameters during human ageing: evidence for complex regulation in longevity and in type 2 diabetes.
2013
Factor structure analyses have revealed the presence of specific biological system markers in healthy humans and diseases. However, this type of approach in very old persons and in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is lacking. A total sample of 2,137 Italians consisted of two groups: 1,604 healthy and 533 with T2DM. Age (years) was categorized as adults (≤65), old (66-85), oldest old (>85-98) and centenarians (≥99). Specific biomarkers of routine haematological and biochemical testing were tested across each age group. Exploratory factorial analysis (EFA) by principal component method with Varimax rotation was used to identify factors including related variables. Structural equation modelling (SEM) wa…
Prognostic value of PCR, IL-6 and IL-10 serum levels in determining postoperative complications after geriatric surgery in diabetic patients
2010
Background The onset of postoperative septic complications has been associated to serum levels of interleukin (IL) IL-6 and IL-10. [1,2]. We have extrapolated a diabetic group from a previous study to evaluate pre and postoperative profiles of some inflammatory markers (IL-6 , IL-10 and CRP). We related the data obtained to the onset of postoperative complications. Diabetic patients have been selected because of their high rate of post-operative complications, especially surgical wound infection.
Head-to-head comparison of sirolimus- and paclitaxel-eluting stent in the same diabetic patient with multiple coronary artery lesions: a prospective,…
2007
OBJECTIVE - It is still controversial whether sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) and paclitaxel-eluting stent (PES) are equally effective in patients with diabetes. In these patients, multiple individual variables may be responsible for neointimal hyperplasia, thus making difficult the comparison of the two drug-eluting stents (DES). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS - We designed a prospective, randomized study to compare the efficacy in prevention of restenosis of SES and PES, both implanted in the same diabetic patient with multiple de novo coronary artery lesions undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention. We enrolled 60 patients with diabetes with at least two significant de novo angi…
Adherence to medical follow‐up recommendations reduces hospital admissions: Evidence from diabetic patients in France
2020
International audience; The aim of this study was to document the extent to which diabetic patients who adhered to required medical follow‐ups in France experienced reduced hospital admissions over time. The main assumption was that enhanced monitoring and follow‐up of diabetic patients in the primary care setting could be a substitute for hospital use. Using longitudinal claim data of diabetic patients between 2010 and 2015 from MGEN, a leading mutuelle insurance company in France, we estimated a dynamic logit model with lagged measures of the quality of adherence to eight medical follow‐up recommendations. This model allowed us to disentangle follow‐up care in hospitals from other forms o…
233 Diabetic care in a network of health professionals in the beaune area
2010
Objectives The GPSPB a Network of Health Professionals in the Beaune Area is a primary care network created February 2002. It covers a population of over 77,000 people and gathers together 123 health professionals. One of the health priorities of the network concerns diabetes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the overall satisfaction of patients with the diabetes care they receive and to measure the medico-economic impact of coordinated care (GPs, dieticians and podiatrists). Program To follow-up satisfaction questionnaires sent to patients with diabetes who applied to the GPSPB from April 2006 to the end of December 2007 (48 people). To study the evolution of relevant biomedical data (…
An Exploratory Research of 18 Years on the Economic Burden of Diabetes for the Romanian National Health Insurance System
2020
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) rises constantly each year worldwide. Because of that, the funds allocated for the DM treatment have increased over time. Regarding the number of DM cases, Romania is among the top ten countries in Europe. Based on the National Diabetes Programme (NDP), antidiabetic drugs and other expenditures (Self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG) test, HbA1c, insulin pumps/insulin pumps supplies) are free of charge. This programme has undergone many changes in drugs supply, in the last two decades: re-organizing the NDP, authorization of new molecules with high prices (e.g., SGLT-2 inhibitors, etc.) or new devices (e.g., insulin pumps, etc.) The main purpose of thi…
Insulinantikrper bei einem Diabetiker mit Nekrobiosis lipoidica
1964
Use of stevia and chia seeds for the formulation of traditional and vegan artisanal ice cream
2021
Abstract Gelato is the name of the Italian-style artisanal ice cream, a nutritious product widely consumed in different parts of the world. Due to the high content in simple sugars, ice cream should be consumed moderately by diabetic patient. This research aimed to create artisanal ice cream, using Stevia rebaudiana, a plant well known for its sweet taste and its hypoglycemic effect. Traditional and vegan ice cream were formulated using stevia and chia seeds, in order to obtain products with appreciable rheological, textural and sensorial properties. Physical and sensorial properties of the ice cream formulation containing milk protein (traditional) or vegan substitute, were evaluated. Resu…
